Hudson: The Redemption (aka the Dungeon Explorer delay explained) |

Yesterday I posted about the undelivered promise of New Year’s dungeon crawling courtesy of the TG16 classic Dungeon Explorer. I’d then gone on to give a pretty scathing account of Hudson’s VC-related fall from grace. Well, it looks like I may have been a little quick to judge. Not only have they offered an explanation (although doing so BEFORE the anticipated release would have been nice) but they seem to have offered a bit of a mea culpa regarding Military Madness as well. They didn’t mention Military Madness directly, but you can see how they intended to include it in the scope of what they said. Kind of like when your drunken/abusive father gets you a Christmas present after he’s been on a bender. It’s not really an apology per se, but you know what he means. Here’s the official word from my favorite Hudsonite as of late, John Master Lee;
As astute fans may have figured out by now, Dungeon Explorer did not hit the street date as intended. It appears that there were some last minute bugs that needed to be addressed, so we have decided to hold back to see what can be done.
As some of you know, when games are played on an emulator, which is the case for Virtual Console games, sometimes funky things happen. Emulation technology is not perfect, so not all games work right from the get go. In this particular case, the bug was serious enough to have a the release schedule changed. I’m sure we’ll have an update on when the game is coming soon.
So, call up your old buddies and tell them that the 5 player Dungeon Explorer game nite is going to have to be put off til another day. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine. Play some ball. Have a picnic. You won’t get much sun once you are down in the dungeons.
Honesty is the best policy, Hudson, so thank you. Now if you’ll just fix Military Madness and justify R-Type, we’ll be back to where we started - with me stalking you in the bushes like a bus pervert in love. I’ll try to make this my last Hudson/VC post until we get an answer on R-Type, I promise.

[...] Hudson’s Dungeon Explorer missed its target launch date yesterday, leaving Urban Champion (NES) and Baseball (NES) to represent Wii Virtual Console’s New Years releases. The muff doesn’t sit well with TurboGrafx-16 fans who have already suffered through two Hudson VC blunders: a broken Military Madness and a pricey R-Type. [...]

Dude, relax, it’s just a VC game. Getting all mad and complaining about this is sort of silly. They are putting out an old game from the early 90’s, so it’s not like they’re that concerned as to whether or not it makes it right on time. You’re one of those people that customer service people probably hate because you think Hudson owes you something. They’ve got better things to do than remember the 96 people who remember Dungeon Explorer.

Well that’s definitely not true. I’m sure they’re very concerned about getting it out on time, they announced it as a new release on a new platform. You can be sure they’re working on it to get it out asap. And I’m sure nintendo isn’t happy about it slipping either

Kevin - normally I’m not one to stoke the fire, but I’ve had a rough week, so I’ve just got to respond.
