Nintendo has just announced that this Monday at 9am PST four new titles will be hitting the virtual console;

- Donkey Kong Jr. (NES - 500 points)
- Columns (Genesis - 800 points)
- Ristar (Genesis - 800 points)
- Victory Run (TurboGrafx 16 - 600 points)

Don’t get me wrong - Donkey Kong Jr. and Columns are both great games, but at these prices I can’t stop laughing long enough to enter my credit card information. Nintendo’s seriously got to iron this pricing bug out - at 300 points I would’ve jumped on Donkey Kong Jr. without a moments notice. Same for Columns at 400. And Ristar? Given that it actually looks like a pretty decent platformer,I’d be willing to shell out 500 points easy even though I’ve never played the game before.

Asking you not to buy VC titles would be downright silly - but please, if you’re going to buy VC titles, only get the ones you really want. If you aren’t making impulse purchases Nintendo is only making a fraction of the money they should be, and they know it. Let’s make a proper pricing structure an inevitability. Please, shop responsibly.

On the bright side, Nintendo has now committed to releasing new VC titles every Monday at 9am PST, starting with these. So it looks like we’ll all have something to look forward to - holding out hope for a title worth the price to come down the pipeline, like A Link to the Past or Super Mario Bros. 3.

What’s your opinion? What would you be willing to pay for certain VC titles?
